If I’m DMing, and you show up with your Chaotic Neutral Rouge Tiefling, you will not be allowed a seat at my table. I’m sorry, but I’m just tired.

this, and all the comments on this post are literally the most freezing cold takes I’ve ever seen holy shit

I can’t believe people wanna have fun playing d&d

anyway I love chaotic neutral tiefling rogues

- Mod Rose

Hey OP who hurt you?

Listen, you can play whatever race or class you want to. I’m just tired of the zany wacky theater kids who think “chaotic neutral” means “chaotic dumbass” and just do whatever “lol so random” thing that jumps across their minds. “Lol, I’m a chaotic neutral rogue, I’m gonna steal from the other players because lol, so random!” “Guys, wouldn’t it be funny if I just stab the plot crucial NPC?” “We’re trying to sneak past this group of enemies? Wouldn’t it just be wacky fun if I started shouting for no reason?” (All things I have actually had to deal with with these kinds of players)

I can’t believe people wanna have fun playing d&d” that’s great, Rebecca, have all the fun you want, that’s why we’re here playing this game, but if your fun involves bringing the flow of the story to a crashing halt every time you want to be “Wacky chaotic dumbass” and ruin the fun for everyone else, then don’t come to my table.

if you cant improvise on the spot when plot crucial npcs die or when characters just fuck off in a random direction maybe you arent a great dm

Improvisation is one of the cornerstones for DMing, that is true, but I shouldn’t have to bring things to a halt every five minutes because Jimmy isn’t getting enough attention and feels like he has to be an ass clown. Constant derailment wears down not only the DM, but the other players as well..

A certain amount of improvisation is expected by the players, sometimes they do things the DM hasn’t accounted for, and depending on how big of a change it is the DM can either solve it on the spot or they may have to take a short break to come up with something. This is usually fine, as it gives the players a few minutes to get up and stretch, go to the bathroom, or get a snack, but if the DM has to constantly stop to sort out the wacko’s shenanigans, the other plays could start to get bored and frustrated. Players like to interact with the world and actually do things, and the less time they have to sit there doing nothing, the better. I’ve had players, and heard from other players from other games, just get so bored and fed up with it that they just stopped playing.

So yes, I can just improvise whenever someone does wacky zany shit, but as I said in another post, if you keep derailing the train, people are eventually going to stop wanting to put it back on the track

the rest of us would actually like to play the game instead of waiting every five minutes for your chaotic neutral xD so random self-insert horny tiefling to stop trying to fuck everything

Good DMs don’t let bad players (yes, bad players exist; if you have to question or challenge that then you aren’t experienced enough) step on their stories and ruin it for the rest of the party. OP is 100% CORRECT.
